Script debate on irony in design.

In Script’s February debate, we posed the question:‘Is irony killing design?, which designer and lecturer Tim Parsons and retailer Thorsten Van Elten tackled in their own very different ways.

The debate hovered mostly around the definition of the term irony in relation to design: What is an ironic product? Is there such a thing? Think Philippe Starck and I guess the answer has to be affirmative, especially considering his latest ‘gun lights’, which he describes as memorials for those killed in the name of progress!
